Our aim in PE is to develop students’ physical competence, knowledge of movement and safety and their ability to use these to perform in a wide range of activities associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle.
Through PE we aim to develop the children’s cognitive, social, creative and personal skills as well as their physical skills. These, together with the nurturing of positive values and attitudes in PE, are foundations for students’ lifelong and life-wide learning to face the challenges of every day life.
The children have one lesson of REAL PE each week for an hour. In this lesson the children have a clear learning journey which is shared. In each unit the children will focus on two physical skills and one other skill e.g. social skills. Children assess themselves against these skills thus enabling them to become assessment capable learners.
In the children’s second lesson of PE they will be taught:
- KS1 – Multi-skills, games, athletics, gymnastics, dance
- KS2 – Invasion games, athletics, striking and fielding, gymnastics and dance.
As part of the Year 4 curriculum the children will be taught swimming.
